HyundaiMotorGroup plans to start shipping the long-awaited Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the US this fall. The company is already taking pre-orders. This engineering innovation is a symbol of a new era for Hyundai as it is their first electric vehicle designed from the ground up.
The fantastic, high-tech design of the Ionika really shows that the future is already here. The neo-retro style electric car has been developed with a new "timeless" design philosophy in mind. The minimalistic and futuristic concept continues inside. The interior of the new "Hyundai" is made in the theme of "living space". The instrument panel and center console take up noticeably less space than comparable conventional crossovers with internal combustion engines. Many items are made from sustainable materials such as plant-based fabrics, natural wool fabrics, recycled plastic bottles, bio-dye and plant-based eco-leather. Large windows and a panoramic sunroof, as well as affordable light-colored upholstery, provide the hyundai ioniq for driver and passengers with plenty of natural light and a fresh feeling.
The electric car is equipped with futuristic pixel-style LED headlights and taillights, 20-inch alloy wheels - the largest wheels ever installed on the company's existing electric cars, handles that automatically hide in the door and a solar panel in the roof.
Inside, the electric car has features such as a dual display consisting of a 12-inch virtual instrument panel and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with augmented reality windshield projection, a movable floor console referred to by the manufacturer as "UniversalIsland", which can be move back 140 mm.
The infotainment system integrates a new design theme that has not been seen in any Hyundai model so far.
The Ioniq 5 will be available in three trim levels in the US, namely SE, SEL, and Limited. Below are the key features:
The train has a length of 4635 mm, a width of 1890 mm and a height of 1605 mm. It has an incredibly long wheelbase - 3000 mm. 531 liters of cargo space are available in the trunk, and when the second row seats are folded, the volume increases to 1591 liters. There's also a front trunk, the US version offers 24 liters of storage space.

With fast charging, the power drops off quickly after reaching the peak, mainly to prevent the battery pack from overheating. However, things are different in Ioniq 5, the E-GMP platform has a newly developed cooling system called "in-cellcooling". The edges of the cells are in direct contact with the cooling plate, which uses liquid cooling.

In May 2021, the South Korean automaker announced plans to electrify the US market. The company said it plans to begin manufacturing Kia and Hyundai electric vehicles in America. By 2025, the company will invest a whopping $7.4 billion in the U.S. to build electric vehicles of the future, improve manufacturing capacity, and further invest in smart mobility solutions. Localized production in the US will start with the Hyundai EV in 2022, and that model could be the Ioniq 6 or Ioniq 5.
For now, the Ioniq will be imported from a South Korean factory that started production in March. Sales in the US will begin in the fall, and while you and I have the opportunity to enjoy the electric vehicle registration law until the end of 2022, and not pay duties and VAT, we strongly recommend that you do not lose this opportunity. After all, this is the future and it is already here.
