Audio & Music Equipment in Uganda
Review of the Austrian Audio HI-X55 monitor headphones. Greetings from Austria
Austrian Audio studio full sizes came to my test today. Their creators are talented deserters from the closed Vienna office of the famous AKG company, they know how to make sound. First of all, the young brand is known for the production of expensive serious microphones. But personally, I am much more interested in headphones, and we'll talk about them. The name of the Hi-X series comes from "High Excursion", that is, a large vibration amplitude of the membrane. The model is equipped with proprietary 44 mm dynamic drivers with a ring magnet system and a special rigid diaphragm, we are promised a wide frequency range and no resonances. These are extremely valuable properties for monitors. Let's find out how good the HI-X55s are for studio work, and also discuss whether they are suitable for simply listening to your favorite music. Play the Viennese waltz and get to it.
The acquaintance with the model begins with the box, which is an amusing cardboard con Audio & Music Equipment in Uganda struction set. As usual, I enjoy the variety, unpacking rarely spoil me with the lack of a classic cover and lid. In order to open the box, you need to unfasten a thin fabric tie. Inside we are waiting for the headphones themselves, as well as the standard delivery set: a bag for transportation, a detachable 3.5 mm cable and an adapter for a 6.3 mm stationary jack. For this price, I'd like to see a hard case here, but it's not there, that's not good.
Let's move on to the design of our Austrians. Let me remind you that the model is full-size, wired, closed and - a nice bonus - foldable. The build feels solid and secure, and the construction is made of metal and matte plastic. There was no backlash out of the box, and the inscription "Made in Vienna" allows us to hope that in the future there will be none. The exterior is stylish but discreet. The headband is flexible, adjustable with a clear click, the earcups can be easily tilted and rotated, thanks to which the headphones can be worn around the neck. The ear cushions made of delicate leatherette are large and plump, filled with memory foam, and cover the ear well. There is also a soft foam pad on the inside of the headband. In general, I have no complaints about the comfort of landing, surprisingly, the HI-X55 did not tire for several hours. They have a very correct weight distribution, I thought that 305 g would feel stronger.
The last thing I want to say is that a three-meter cable goes to the model. For studio work, this is great, listening to music at home is not a problem, but in a minibus an audiophile with such a python will look peculiar. But the foldable design assumes portability, so in the long run it makes sense to pick up a replacement cable if you bought headphones not exclusively for the studio.
Despite the high sensitivity, the model is not the most obedient to swing. However, these are not stationary headphones either, an ordinary Hi-Fi player will pull them, but with a smartphone, even the volume will not be enough, an additional amplifier will be needed.
The main testing was carried out on Astell players
First of all, I can voice the subjective conclusion that the HI-X55 test gave me pleasure. These are the most engaging monitors I've heard in a while. They are certainly suitable not only for work in the studio, but also for everyday use, their handwriting combines technicality and musicality, even slightly leaning towards the latter.
In general, the character of the feed is fast, dryish, light. It seems to me that the essence of the model's charm lies in the ability to present an acoustic picture vividly, informatively and harmoniously, with a pleasant saturation. Perhaps this is still a more massive sound than audiophile. But he is definitely very fun.
The bass of the HI-X55 is linear, punchy, with good resilience and good depth. The variability of textures is a compromise, but the relief is clearly defined. The weight on the woofer is sufficient to build a base, but there is no mass swap here, and if you are a fan of having full sizes vibrate on your head, this is not your option.
The mids are fast, detailed, and bright. Despite the fact that the overall pitch is dry, there is a beautiful length of notes on vocals and live instruments. The timbres are warm, the scene is built correctly. Among the shortcomings - the average periodically lacks volume and weight, the resolution is not a record one, I can also note a clea
